The debut feature film from “The Sopranos” creator, David Chase, which appears to be somewhat autobiographical on Chase’s life in NJ growing up in the early 1960’s. Fresh off the “British Invasion,” teenagers all over the world were trying to create a band to be the next big thing like Beatles, and the Rolling Stones. The story follows a group of teenagers in a cover band, as they set out to perform original songs and get recognized. A passion project for David Chase, with a great soundtrack provided by Steven Van Zandt of E-Street Band fame, and brings about some nice nostalgia for that era.

Dating myself and well the band too, but I haven’t seen the Mad caddies since they opened up the 1997 Warped Tour in Asbury Park, NJ. They were new to the scene and it was really a welcomed sight as well. Flash forward several years, releases and many many tours, the band is still going strong, albeit, maybe not as full time as when Ska/ Punk was at its boon.

Chuck’s 5th & Final Season brought the series to a close with 13 fun, exciting and emotional episodes, now on DVD & Blu Ray, featuring an extended version of the series finale. Starring Zachary Levi as the title character Chuck alongside a great cast, which brings together a perfect blend of comedy, action, pop culture references, and drama. Chuck was always the little show that could with a passionate fan base, NBC & Warner Bros allowed it to go out on its own terms and for that I’m forever grateful.

After Jim Lindberg left Pennywise to be a “Punk Rock” Dad in 2009 and be closer to his children, the state of Pennywise was left up in the air. In early 2010 Zoli Teglas, formerly of the California Hardcore punk band Ignite, joined the band and has been touring with Pennywise since. Teglas’ introduction into the group, also reinvigorated them as they went into the studio to deliver one of their best albums to date, in “All or Nothing.”

Normally, we wouldn’t cover sports related stories here but since I’m an avid Red Bulls fan here in New York, I couldn’t help but get behind this story. Luke Rodgers has played one season with the New York Red Bulls of Major League Soccer in the USA, and before he even arrived he had some Visa issues. Rodgers went on to have a great first year with MLS and was nominated for the Newcomer of the Year Award with the league. Now, with the Visa issuance being delayed yet again and an appeal hearing coming down sometime next week, it’s an important time for Rodgers. Here is how you can help.

From the hilarious creators of The Office and Extras, Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant, comes a funny travel series featuring their friend and unlikely travel host, Karl Pilkington. The curmudgeon who doesn’t want to travel is set across the world to visit the Seven Wonders of the World, much to his chagrin. Karl Pilkington is hysterical in this, even though he may not feel like he is or trying to be, but An Idiot Abroad and it’s sequel are must-see viewing.

The wolfpack is back! The follow up sequel to the smash hit, The Hangover takes the gang on another wild adventure overseas to Bangkok, Thailand. Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms and Zach Galifianakis star as best friends who travel overseas for their friend Stu’s (Helms) wedding and ultimately his bachelor party. The film continues in the same formula as the first film, but with a different, exotic locale makes it still feel fresh, and funny. As they say, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

Emmy winning series for Best Comedy is back for another solid season with Season Two. Ed O’Neill and Julie Bowen star in this ensemble comedy about a family in California with a “Mockumentary” feel to it. Created by Steve Levitan and Christopher Lloyd, no not Doc Brown!, Modern Family was a stand out in the Fall Season of 2009-10. Featuring an older man marrying a sexy young wife, a gay couple and a husband and wife with 3 children, Modern Family is a closer look at the genesis of what families may be accustomed to now. Considered one of the best comedies on television now, Modern Family will certainly be around for many years to come.

Wow, back to back “Romantic Comedies” reviews. What is happening to me? Four Weddings And A Funeral, the sleeper hit of 1994, starring Hugh Grant and Andie MacDowell that takes place in England in the busy times of a group of friends. Directed by Mike Newell (Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire) and Written by Richard Curtis (Love Actually) do a great job of creating stories that not only woman can watch but men don’t have to feel ashamed watching a “Chick Flick.” Of course the film taking place in London always help out any film. Featuring many laughs and an interesting story with so much happiness and sorrow in one film, surprisingly one that is now 17 years old and only the first time I’ve seen it, was rather enjoyable to watch.

The Cutting Edge, yes that Cutting Edge film, is a film about a washed up hockey player and a snotty rich kid who is a figure skater and team up as an unlikely duo to compete in the Winter Olympics. Starring D.B. Sweeney as Doug Dorsey and Moira Kelly as Kate Moseley, this pair really became known in the film industry for this film. Not just your romantic “comedy” type of movie, but features some great work with Hockey and Figure Skating as the camera work was quite impressive. Not to mention it is one of my wife’s favorite films so you know how it goes.
