Hey it's not all about concert photography with me. My other passion in life is to bitch about the New York Rangers. But seriously, I love hockey and try to watch every game. I've loved the New York Rangers since I was 5 years old...or so. Tonight was Brian Leetch's ceremony to retire his #2 from the rafters. It was a great night with many of the old players coming back to pay tribute to the defenseman. Brian Leetch, to me, is one of the greatest defensemen to play the game and one of the greate
st Ranger players...if not THE greatest. He was with the team for 16 or 17 seasons and was just awesome in all those seasons. I'm still pissed (along with all the rest of the Ranger fans) when ass clown GM Glen Sather traded him away. Brian Leetch even said he's still upset that it went down that way. Good thing Sather didn't bother showing his mug at the ceremony tonight. He might have gotten tomatoed to death!
Leetch's jersey was the first hockey jersey I owned when I was a little lad. It was the old school jersey with the big holes in it. When I met a bunch of old-time hockey players and they signed autographs on it, there were leftover marker spots all over my dress shirt. But back to Leetch, there are still goals & plays he made that I remember growing up, especially in the Rangers' Stanley Cup run. The biggest play most of us remember is when he did his spin move on the Devils cry-baby goalie, Martin Brodeur. Such a nice spin-o-rama and such a meaningful goal too. The first goal in Game 7 was something else too; that clip still gives me goosebumps. He was one of the best quarterbacks of the power play and could go end to end and score a beautiful goal. There's just so many great things to say about the guy.
During the jersey retirement ceremony, Leetch made a surprise announcement and said that Adam Graves' #9 jersey will be retired into the MSG rafters as well next year. Everyone was shocked and so was Adam Graves. He was very humble and pointed back to Brian Leetch, which was a classy move. It was Brian Leetch's night after all. But Graves deserves it and he's definitely still my favorite Ranger player. So I was happy to hear that his number was being retired as well. Brian Leetch and Adam Graves will always be my favorite Rangers. It was Leetch's night tonight and it will be Graves' night next year. Let's Go Rangers! Please don't suck anymore....
