For the last two months, I’ve been driving over to CT to see my girlfriend for the weekend. Of course, I happen to leave during the worst time…Friday night rush hour traffic. I usually leave right after work around 4:30pm, and it takes an hour to get to Danbury, CT. Everything is fine until you get into Connecticut. On the highway I84, it’s smooth sailing until you see that dreadful “Welcome to Connecticut” sign. Just as you think you’re in the clear with no traffic, BAM! Every stupid car puts on their breaks and you now find yourself stuck in the gauntlet of Danbury traffic.
If I knew a better way around, I would take it. I heard taking the Merrit Parkway is just as bad on Friday nights. I used to have to go through Danbury, New Town, and Waterbury and every town with bury at the end of it. It’s just not Danbury, it seems like CT is the traffic state. I thought New Jersey was bad (which it still is), but driving in Connecticut is quickly making me think otherwise. What’s so bad about it is you go from 70mph down to 25mph then back up to 50mph back down to 10mph. Then the traffic lets up and as soon as you hit the next turn, everyone just anticipates traffic and slams on your breaks. So just imagine doing that stop-and-go bullshit for an hour straight. It’s the most retarded thing ever! It really makes me want to drive a tank and make my own path if you know what I mean.
Another thing I think is retarded is the slow cars lane on the right hand side. You get these right hand lanes, where slow moving vehicles like trucks are suppose to be in. But that’s never the case! You get all these assholes speeding through it, hoping to beat some traffic. It’s actually making it worse with these lanes because they eventually merge back into the other lane. I actually think that’s the cause of the traffic (or one of the many). Another bad thing about driving in CT is the drivers. They really like to ride your ass don’t they! It’s like they have a dying person in their car and trying to get to the nearest hospital. Again, I thought NJ drivers were bad…
I even tried to leave later on in the night and still hit damn traffic in Danbury. It just seems unavoidable unless I go over Saturday mornings. Coming back on Sunday afternoons isn’t as bad but there just seems to be a lot of people on the road. I luckily found new ways to get to the New Haven area, by taking RT. 34. I just have to sit in traffic until I get to Exit 11 though. It definitely makes the trips less insane but CT traffic still makes me nuts. Well its Friday today, so I guess I’ll see you in traffic! If you happen to see someone in a gray Honda Civic, punching his steering wheel; that’s me! |
