I had no plans to see this tour, in fact I really can't stand this type of music. It's music for 13 year olds pretty much. But I got an opportunity to shoot for Alternative Press Magazine and their website so I decided to take that opportunity. This was their tour and the photos will be posted on their tour blog later today (I'll have the link for it soon). I got stuck in the usual GW Bridge BS, this time it's 8 dollars to sit in traffic for an hour! Hooray for NY!
When I got to Irving Plaza, the line was around the building with screaming teenage girls and teen boys that had girl hairstyles & jeans. There was an incident at the door where the list wasn't there, so another photographer and I had to wait for the manager to clear it up. The other photographer was really nice and we were talking pretty much the entire night. It was cool to talk to someone since no one went with me. Check out his photos from the show here. The other photographers in the pit were pretty much little girls, a whole lot of them! I guess people have to start somewhere right? It was almost impossible to walk around the photo pit, but I somehow managed. I was mostly sitting to the side of the stage because my lenses were too close. I was using the 50mm lens for a little bit but was resorting back to my old kit lens because it was a wide angle lens. I really need to get a new wide angle lens dedicated to low lighting.
The first band was Forever The Sickest Kids, and they had a lot of energy. I pretty much tuned out all the music for this show and just concentrated on getting some good shots. These types of bands are definitely not something I'd want to listen to though. Sonny was after them and I didn't think they were good at all. The kid singer didn't even sound like he reached puberty yet; his voice was so whiny and as Randy Jackson would say, “pitchy.” After Sonny were The Matches. They were some-what tolerable, compared to the other bands. The Rocket Summer featured one guy that played like 50 instruments and had a girlie singing voice. I probably got the best photos of him. Headlining the show was All Time Low and they were okay. I keep trying to capture the guitarist's jumps and kicks the entire set. Overall, I got some cool photos but I wish I had a better wide angle lens and camera. I guess I got to keep saving up for it. Below are some of the best photos of the night:
