Sleepy Hollow Halloween Trip 2007

Last Saturday, my friends and I made another trip down to Sleepy Hollow, NY. I went last year to visit the Old Dutch Church and see the remains of the Headless Horsemen bridge. That bridge isn't there anymore but it's still neat to walk around the Sleepy Hollow cemetery. You can see the grave of Washington Irving, and some other people based on the Legend of the Sleepy Hollow. Plus, it's just kind of cool to see the third oldest church in the country.

Last year, we found out from the groundskeeper where the real Hessian solider was buried. He's buried in an unmarked grave, about 50 feet or so, southeast from the Old Dutch Church. The ground is sinking in, and that's where the real Hessian is buried. According to the myths or stories, he was allowed to be buried in the village cemetery because he rescued a baby from a burning building. Last year, my friend Frank was standing on his grave and his camera pretty much stopped working and got broken. Coincidence or maybe something else?

This year, we walked around and took some photos of the Old Dutch and the cemetery. I saw a lot more tombstones and other sculptures this time. Quite a lot of impressive sculptures on tombstones for a bunch of dead people. Some are really creepy and look like they are watching you. Since I saw most of the the church and cemetery last year, I wanted to check out other historic places in Tarrytown & Sleepy Hollow. Of course, we were running late as it is but decided to check out Lyndhurst castle. I wanted to check out Philipsburg Manor but other people were going there later on for a haunted hayride thing. Lyndhurst cost 10 bucks just to enter the grounds & for a tour and the whole experience wasn't very exciting. The castle or old mansion looked okay. I guess when you see castles and other buildings over in Europe; many things over here are just not as impressive. We started the tour but quickly got out of it because it was boring the shit out of us. The tour guide looked like she was going to have a heart attack any minute. Plus half the stuff inside wasn't that special either. So we ditched that and I wondered over to some people scarecrow thing on the lawn. It was kind of cool to see all the the scarecrow things together but kind of lame looking at the same time.

On a side note, never drive through Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow during Halloween time. It takes about half hour just to go 2 miles. I had to go through that crap 4 times! I was ready to lose my mind. As soon as I got home, I passed out for a few hours because I was just exhausted from the day. I want to check out other historic places in the area because it's something to do on the weekends. Beats sitting around at home all the time..well sometimes sitting at home is okay too. Below are some of the photos I took from the day.
