Folk Punk, Punk Folk, Country Punk, Punky Folk Rock n Roll

Whatever you want to call it, it's getting huge and for good reasons. For many people, this new genre of crossover punkrock mixed with some folky or country influences is different and unique. I have to admit, it's sort of a natural progression for me.

This new wave of fiddles, acoustic guitars, slide guitars, harmonicas and scratchy, melodic vocals are a welcome edition to punkrock. I love it, I have to admit. Bands like Hot Water Music have always been a huge influence in my life, with their melodic harmonies and the bass track that keeps you tapping. When they broke up and Chuck decided to go solo, the country-inspired, acoustic songs quickly grew to the top of my charts.

There's nothing better than the energy that HWM puts out and it's because of the love and the passion. That is what goes into this new genre. Songs about girls and boys, drinking and friends, traveling and working too. I have to say, I don't necessarily love country, but musician like Against Me!, Lucero, Chuck Ragan, The Gaslight Anthem and more are setting the stage for some good friggin' music to come.

With that rant over, I'm going to introduce myself. I'm mike, I've been reviewing/interviewing here and there for a few years and now I'm blogging. Click over to my site if you want, it has nothing to do with music, but you may learn something useful. It's called Leafygreen.info

its been around a lot longer over in Europe than it has here like the Levellers, Billy Bragg in the late 80s/90s and other bands like that. But seems more and more people are going towards that style. Everyone is trying to be like Against Me now haha.
