The 38th season of Saturday Night Live is in the books. SNL finished its season this past weekend with host Ben Affleck and musical guest Kanye West. The season finale saw the departure of longtime cast members Fred Armisen and Bill Hader. With the season now at a close, it is time to take a look back at some of the best skits and shorts of the 2012-2013 Season.
Within the past decade, we have seen the rise of a new form of media: the podcast. We have witnessed the ascension of the podcast personality (Marc Maron), the establishment of podcasting networks (Nerdist), and even the mainstream embrace (ESPN). For some, podcasting is a means of getting themselves heard, even when it appears no one is listening.
In 2011, our friends over at Underground Communique and Asbestos Records started a fantastic project called the 3rd Wave Ska Preservation Society. The key driver of the project was to take the best records of ska’s 3rd Wave and press them to vinyl. The project has been rolled out in 2 phases. The first phase included releases from the Pietasters, Pilfers, Edna’s Goldfish, and Suburban Legends. The second round included releases from The Slackers, The Toasters, Stubborn All-Stars, and the Bruce Lee Band.
The ’90s have come and gone and you’re a parent now. Your rudeboy ways haven’t completely gone out the window though. In fact, you’re still a hardcore ska fan and you apply that to raising your children. We now present to you: 32 ways on how you’re a ska parent.
Even people in the zombie-infested world of The Walking Dead have to find love..or at the very least, get some every once and awhile. I’d imagine the characters living in the Walking Dead world would use these 60 pick up lines. Or maybe not since by the time they try to ask these, they will probably would have been eaten alive already.
1. Want to see my aquarium of walker heads?
2. Baby, this is a DICKatorship!
3. I’ve noticed you from afar, in my scope…
4. If I shot an arrow through our heart will you still believe I’m Cupid?
5. The sight of you cleaning your sword really turns me on.
Game of Thrones is one of my favorite TV series and books. I’m sure you all want to know what the citizens of the Seven Kingdoms usually say when they want to pick up someone. Well now you can! Here’s a list of 60 Game of Thrones pick up lines. See if you can get all the references and if you got anymore, post them in the comments! Valar Morghulis.
I’ll start out by saying that I lived a very sheltered life in 2012. I don’t get out much and I have this knack for hating things that everyone else seems to like. I don’t do it on purpose…honestly. That’s just the way I am. Therefore my list is narrow-minded and unorthodox. Enjoy! Or not…
It’s that time of year again when I try really, really hard to come up with a list of albums, movies, tv shows that I liked or remember liking. Plus, I compiled a bunch of other stuff as well like favorite concerts, celebrity crushes, funniest videos, words that need to go away, things I’ve learned and even something silly like Game of Thrones Reality TV Show titles. Enjoy!
Everybody loves ska & reggae right? Wait, where are you going!? We’ve already made a ska playlist but I was thinking ReadJunk.com should compile a bunch of ska and reggae-style songs from musicians and bands that aren’t known for playing ska or reggae music. Some of these might be a little bit of a stretch but whatever, we needed filler haha. I’m not suggesting the bands themselves are straight up ska, but the songs below contain elements of ska or reggae so don’t get your panties in a bunch. Like always, if we missed a song; please comment down below with your choices!
2011 was a great year for me personally. Got married, went to Paris for our Honeymoon, and moved to Jersey city. 2011 was also great in music and movies as well but think 2012 will be even better with movies. The Hobbit, Dark Knight Rises and the Avengers! Wowza! In 2012, ReadJunk.com/Ska Punk Other Junk will be 15 years old! The site is still going (not strongly haha, but still going). I’ll also be starting a new web venture that I’m looking forward to starting but I’ll talk more about in the upcoming months. For now, see what I liked/disliked of 2011! Happy New Year Folks!
Occupy Wall Street is happening across the country right now, spreading throughout city to state. The Occupy movement is going to other countries as well. People are fed up and downright pissed off about corporate greed and the way the world is being run. I wanted to gather up a bunch of protest, revolution, riot, anti-police, anti-government, anti-banks, etc. type of songs for a protest playlist. In the past my playlists were just articles, now you can listen to them on Spotify!
2010 is quickly ending and it was quite an interesting year. I got engaged, I’m about to move to Jersey City and things have just been busy all year round. This year in music and movie was okay, with better music coming out than movies I think. At least in terms of music that I like. This list below might not be as long as my usual Year in Review list but that’s okay, I think I covered everything I need to. Check out my lists below:
