The 2013 Oscar Nominations (a.k.a. The Harvey Weinstein Awards) announced.

The 2013 Oscars Nominations were announced early this morning by host Seth MacFarlane and Emma Stone. It was an amusing announcement, which should prove for a fun Oscar night. I’m surprised by some of the nominations and then I’m not because usually Harvey Weinstein is involved. The Oscars are fun to watch but most of the time it’s just a bunch of bullshit because it’s basically whoever campaigned the hardest.

Willow coming to Blu-Ray on March 12th

“I DON’T love her! She kicked me in the face!” Willow is just a fun fantasy adventure by Ron Howard and George Lucas. I used to watch Willow all the time and still from time to time. I love Val Kilmer’s character and could watch another movie just based on that character. It certainly will be nice to watch the movie on Blu-Ray and this has been one of the releases I was looking forward to watching on there. Read the press release and see the trailer down below.

You got to be joking, The Mummy is being rebooted!?

Well, it’s official folks. Hollywood has finally run out of original ideas. Universal plans on rebooting The Mummy franchise, and making it scarier or something. Len Wiseman (director of another reboot Total Recall) is set to direct and I’m sure Kate Beckingsale will be cast in some fashion. I wish Hollywood would stop getting lazy with these reboots, remakes, and other unoriginal ways to sucker people into the movie theaters.

Tarantino XX: 8-Film Collection Blu-ray Set being released on November 20th!

Fans of the director Quentin Tarantino should be happy to know they can watch 8 films from his career on Blu-Ray starting on November 20th. Lionsgate is releasing a 8 film set starting with Reservoir Dogs and ending with Inglorious Basterds. I haven’t seen Kill Bill Vol. 1 and 2, Pulp Fiction or True Romance lately so I’d definitely be interested in this set for Blu-Ray.

RIP: Director Tony Scott dies

Hollywood has lost another great action film director & producer. Tony Scott (Brother to Ridley Scott) has died from an apparent suicide and he was 68 years old. Scott is best known for directing movies like Top Gun, Beverly Hills Cop 2, True Romance, Days of Thunder, Last Boy Scout, Enemy of The State, Crimson Tide, Spy Game, and the recent Unstoppable which came out in 2010. He has also produced a ton like this summer’s Prometheus. Out of those movies, I would have to say Enemy of the State, Crimson Tide and Beverly Hills Cop 2 were my favorite. It was known he was working on another Top Gun movie, as well as producing the sequel to Prometheus. He will be missed!

The Hobbit becomes a trilogy!

Director Peter Jackson has confirmed on his Facebook page that the Hobbit will be broken up into 3 movies now! Lord of the Rings geeks will either love or hate this. I for one am quite excited to see more from Peter Jackson’s take of the Tolkien stories. Sure, the Hobbit isn’t that long but there’s a lot of stuff untold in the Appendixes of Return of the King. I’d love to see more of Aragorn (which I hope Viggo Mortensen can come back), the rise of Sauron and other things. Other questions arise like how long each film will be, and where PJ will break up the stories? Does he end with Smaug in Movie 2 and have Battle of the Five Armies and all the other stuff in part 3? Or do the first two movies be The Hobbit and have all the other stuff be the third movie? I have faith in Peter Jackson and his WETA team and it could be a very long time before we see anything else from Middle Earth so I’ll take 3 movies anyday!

Christopher Nolan issues a statement on Dark Knight Rises shooting tragedy

By now, you’ve all heard the upsetting news of the theater shooting at a Dark Knight Rises screening in Aurora, Colorado. Some gun-tooting loser ended up shooting up a movie theater, killing 12 people (including a hockey writer Jessica Ghawi) and injuring 59 others. It’s quite scary to think that this could have happened (and still happen) at any movie theater; just because any asshole can easily walk into a store and get a gun. If you think there shouldn’t be some type of gun control, I’m sorry but you’re a moron! A lot of celebrities have been commenting about the tragedy including Director Christopher Nolan. He has issued a statement about the tragedy which you can read below:

American Reunion comes to Blu-ray and DVD on July 10

American Reunion was out in theaters in April and in a few months you can own it already. Why bother going to see movies when they are released this quickly? I don’t mind it since I find it hard to get to the movies nowadays anyway. I haven’t seen this yet but looking forward to it since it features the original cast and I liked the other, true movies. American Reunion will be coming out on Blu-Ray and DVD on July 10th. Below is the press release:

Warped Tour Documentary, No Room For Rockstars, playing one night in select theaters on March 1st 2012

I love music documentaries, and there’s been a few on The Warped Tour alone already. Maybe this one will stand out from all the rest? You can watch the movie in select theaters on March 1st, or just wait for DVD/iTunes/etc. in May. I’ll probably wait til May since I don’t really venture out to the movies anymore it seems these days. If you’re attending the Slamdance Festival, you can also see the movie on Jan. 22nd as well.
