The Blind Side surprised me a bit. I wasn’t expecting to like this movie this much. Sandra Bullock just won an Oscar for her performance in the movie, and the film was also nominated for Best Picture. Thankfully I decided to watch this movie because I ended up really liking it.

The Twilight Saga: New Moon, the second movie in the four part series comes out on DVD and Blu-ray this Saturday. In my opinion, New Moon is an obvious improvement from the first Twilight movie, but it still has some flaws to be worked out.

Ang Lee’s Taking Woodstock movie has come and gone in theaters, and it’s also been out on DVD for awhile now. Shows how far behind I’m at with CD reviewing. Obviously, the movie is about Woodstock and the people (Elliot Tiber, Max Yasgur) behind it.

St Patrick’s Day has passed this year but that doesn’t mean you can’t listen to some Celtic rock music still! The Rumjacks hail from Australia, but they don’t sound like it at all. The band is heavily influenced by The Pogues and Roaring Jack (obviously). Members of the band formed in 2008 when their other bands (the Laundrymen, Catgut Mary) broke up. I’ve heard many a Celtic rock band in my day, and these guys definitely stand out from the bunch.

Some of you know Nick Swardson as the gay roller-skating prostitute on Reno 911 or the guy from Grandma’s Boy but he’s also a comedian. His follow-up “Seriously, Who Farted?” to “Party” was released back in October 2009 and I’ve been meaning to check this out, just never got around to it until now. I’m glad I finally gave Nick’s stand-up a chance because it’s some funny stuff!

The late great, Byron Lee and his band The Dragonaires were trend setters. Playing music that wasn’t typically popular, yet still performed with passion and developed into one of Jamaica’s finest bands. Byron Lee and The Dragonaires’ career spans the entire musical history of Jamaica to date and an anthology set like this, is important to have in any music fan’s collection.

Captain Black No Stars and Rasta4eyes released a split CD on the excellent Do the Dog Records last year. The first 4 tracks are from Captain Black No Stars, who hail from King’s Lynn, UK. The band has a dirty reggae/ 2 tone sound and I’m not sure if I like them more than Rasta 4 Eyes. Both bands are decent though and worth checking out.

Surrogates stars Bruce Willis and is a sci-fi movie that came out in 2009. I still haven’t seen yet (even though its sitting on my DVD shelf). I’ll watch it eventually; the movie didn’t really get good reviews though. The movie revolves around a college student murder linked to the man who helped create a high-tech surrogate phenomenon that allows people to purchase un-flawed robotic versions of themselves. All righty.

Leverage is the hit TNT show starring Timothy Hutton, Gina Bellman, Christian Kane, Beth Riesgraf and others. The show is about a team of con-artists, thieves, computer experts as they right the wrongs in big business and government. I always thought the concept of the show was cool, but I never got around to watching it.

A Serious Man is one of the latest films from The Coen Brothers. It stars Michael Stuhlbarg, Sari Lennick, Fred Melamed, and Richard Kind. It’s about an ordinary man who is trying to find balance and understanding in the world. I haven’t seen the movie but I’m not sure I’m going to. It doesn’t seem like a movie I would enjoy. The Coen Brothers movies are hit or miss with me; sometimes I like them and sometimes I don’t.
