Let’s start off this review with the very first thing that I thought of when I heard that “The Lord of the Rings” was being turned into LEGOs…Lego Legolas! Ok, not that I got that off of my chest I can point out that I have been a fan of the LEGO video games since the very first Star Wars ones way back when. The big name LEGO games aren’t the most challenging games in the world, but ever since I saw an animated LEGO Millennium Falcon with a LEGO Chewbacca hanging out with LEGO Han Solo I was sold. Their humor is fun for both young and old and since I have a major case of OCD in regards to collecting things in life and in video games, the overabundance of collectibles in the LEGO games always manages to keep me entertained for hours on end.

When I first heard about XCOM: Enemy Unknown I was both skeptical and hesitant. For one I’m not much of a fan of turn-based strategy games and I am not familiar with the original XCOM game that came out for PCs way back in 1994. With well over a dozen hours logged into Enemy Unknown, I can say that I was surprised at how fun and challenging the game was without being a gruelingly difficult game…which it surely can be with the higher difficulty levels.

Another year and another stellar installment of the NBA 2K franchise. This year’s edition gets the added flair of some involvement from hip-hop superpower Jay-Z, labeled as Executive Producer as well as the addition of the 1992 and 2012 Olympic teams. Is that enough to outshine 2K12 and its classic superstar modes or will 2K13 leave you wishing that P-Diddy were Executive Producer so that you could listen to that one song from the Godzilla soundtrack over and over again?

Currently, the NBA season is on hiatus. Players want more money. Owners want more money. Fans just want more basketball. With the real sport in limbo, and EA’s god-awful game missing this year, the 2K franchise is all that gamers and basketball fans have. Do you know what? That’s all we need.

“Some destinies are chosen. Fight alongside or against the X-Men based on the choices you make.” That’s the tagline on the box of X-Men Destiny. For the first time that I can recall in comic book video games you can take to the street and go up against the X-Men as the Brotherhood. Of course, I sided with the X-men but just having the opportunity to choose your side and thus your destiny is a unique selling point for this game.

Duke Nukem is a very polarizing character. You either love him or hate him. There are no in betweens. Duke Nukem stands for just about everything I can’t stand and represents the kind of people that I despise. So why do I love him so? Why do I find his beer-guzzling womanizing ways so humorous? Honestly, I really don’t know and I really don’t care. He is a character in a video game and he is one of the most tongue-in-cheek characters in all of video games. If you take him serious (you probably get a boner playing Call of Doody), then that’s your problem.

Coming off the heels of watching “Public Enemies” a month ago, I was eagerly awaiting 2K Games release of “Mafia II” for the 360. I quickly downloaded the demo when it was first available, and it had an interesting enough hook that made me anxious to play the full game, regardless of not having played the first game.

When I first got my copy of G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra for the XBOX 360, I was excited to get back into a world I hadn’t immersed myself into in about 20 years. I really had no intention of seeing the movie in the theaters, what with how expensive tickets are nowadays, so this was to be the closest I was going to get.
