Simple Minds decided to have some fun and cover their fave tunes. Although I normally hate cover albums, this one really works. For one thing, Simple Minds just sound great. Secondly, their track selection is not only superb, but you can really tell the original artists had a big hand in shaping the Minds’ sound: Them, David Bowie, Neil Young, Joy Division, The Buzzcocks, Velvet Underground, Patti Smith, The Doors, Echo & The Bunnymen, Roxy Music, Human League, and of course, Kraftwerk.
Definitely one of the better cover albums out there (especially their fantastic versions of “Dancing Barefoot” and “Bring On the Dancing Horses”). |
