A Beautiful Mind is the story of the mathematical genius John Nash, played brilliantly by Russell Crowe. He attends Princeton University. He rarely attends classes because he's trying to find his original idea. He eventually comes up with a revolutionary theory that gets him a job with the government. After that he becomes a codebreaker for the Gov't. He also falls in love with one of his students, played by Jennifer Connelly. That's pretty much the story of this film. I'm sure they didn't put in the whole story about him, and added some things for the movie for suspense and drama. Russell Crowe was brilliant in this movie. He deserves any awards that they can give him. Jennifer Connelly also does a terrific job as his wife. Man, I loved her all the way back in Career Opportunities but she is really beautiful here. Ed Harris plays a creepy Government agent, and Paul Bettany plays Nash's "roommate." He adds a little bit of comic relief to the film, and Russell Crowe also adds a lot of humor to the film as well. I wasn't expecting a lot in this film. I wasn't expecting some of the humor because I thought it was a straight up drama. It was a drama, but with some funny lines. I also wasn't expecting a twist in the film. The less you know of the film, the better I think. I thought Ron Howard did another great job directing. I liked how you go inside Nash's mind and see what he sees. Like looking at numbers, magazines, stars, etc. It was a neat effect. I like the the camera angles of spinning around John Nash. I thought the score by James Horner was fitting for the film. It wasn't uplifting or this huge theme like you would hear in Lord Of The Rings, but a nice, soft classical score. Really, the only complaint I had was it was a little long, or slow in some parts. But A Beautiful Mind is definitely worth checking out if you like dramas about real people. |
