Cider House Rules

Starring: Tobey Maguire as Homer Wells, Michael Caine as Dr. Larch, Charlize Theron as Candy
This amazing epic written by John Irving is made into a movie full of emotions, passions, and destructions leading to the downfalls of society during WWII. Michael Caine gives and equisite performance as an abortion doctor practicing illegally in Maine. He knows of nothing else outside of this orphanage. Homer Wells, played by Tobey Maguire is left there as a young child and the doctor takes on a fatherly role that leads to an apprenticeship. Homer grows to be a smart boy, and is practically a certified M.D.. However, he finds that his morals conflict with that of Dr. Larch, and after meeting Candy, played by Charlize Theron, he decides to leave the orphanage. Homer Wells embraces a new world with great awe and Tobey Maguire plays him with a way that will steal your heart. Finding solace at an apple orchard in mid-America he begins his new life. Homer eventually discovers that life as a lower class American is not easy. He is "adopted" by a working family at the orchard. Chaos occurs at the orchard when grotesque info is revealed about the family and its practices. This movie will strike your heart with such force that tears may not even be possible. Do not be afraid to open your minds to this type of story, as it is a fact of life and there is no way of avoiding it. My choice for a thought-provoking
