(CMJ) There seems to be a sea change happening in the Fat Wreck family of formerly hard-line, DIY punk preachers. Punk-folk outfit Against Me! have just announced signing to Sire Records (owned by Warner Bros.) on their website, and that they will have a new record out in 2007 with the label. The band, whose song "Unprotected Sex With Multiple Partners" on 2005's Searching For A Former Clarity dealt with the discomfort and frustration of label politics (and whose DVD We're Never Going Home detailed them turning down a deal from Universal), seem to have had a change of heart about the majors. This move follows fellow Fat Wreckers and DIY champions Anti-Flag, who hooked up with RCA in 2005, and Rise Against, whose 2004 LP Siren Song Of The Counter Culture came out on Geffen. Sire is currently home to acts such as Hot Hot Heat and the Futureheads. The question remains, who will be a good home to the expression "independent as fuck," now that it's retired.
