Billy Bragg, the English singer-songwriter responsible for ushering the political folk of Woody Gutherie and his ilk into the post-punk era, has been long overdue for the reissue treatment. Because his early records have drifted out-of-print, fans will be ecstatic that Yep Roc is finally re-releasing his early work on February 21, 2006. His first two releases, Life's A Riot With Spy Vs. Spy and Brewing Up With Billy Bragg (previously coupled with the Between The Wars EP as Back To Basics), as well as Talking With The Taxman About Poetry will be available in deluxe double-disc reissues. The EPs Internationale and Live And Dubious will be packaged on one disc with a bonus DVD. For those who want the whole shebang, all of the reissues will be available as a box set titled Volume One along with an extra DVD and a full-color book. With that said and done, Bragg will embark on a two-week US tour following a March appearance at South By Southwest. Bragg's re-releases were originally set for a September 2005 in-store date, but were pushed back when Bragg became concerned that he wouldn't be able to direct enough attention to their release. Hey, after all these years, what's a couple of months? |
