Colin Meloy and the Decemberists gang are back in the recording studio this summer to finish up the newest addition to their already dazzling discography. The new album, titled The Crane Wife, is set to hit stores October 3. The band is currently narrowing down some 22 songs into a more modest album length. On this record, their first for Capitol, some songs clock in at an epic ten minutes-plus. Also, a collection of drunken (hey, they said it, not us) B-sides and outtakes from the 2004 Picaresque sessions, titled (quite similarly) Picaresqueties, is currently available for fans unwilling to wait until October for some Decemberists. If you're not lucky enough to find it stashed in the bins of your favorite record store, you can buy it from the oh-so generous people at iTunes. The Decemberists will also make an appearance at the Telluride Bluegrass Festival in Colorado June 16 and are planning a national tour for the fall to coincide with their new album's release.
