Band Teams Up With SMOSH.com To Create Internet Phenomenon “Sex Ed Rocks”
Miami’s experimental electro-grind duo I Set My Friends On Fire have done it again. The twosome have teamed up with the widely popular sketch comedy site Smosh.com to create the web phenomenon “Sex Ed Rocks,” a hilarious new song and video about the importance of safe sex. I Set My Friends On Fire know a thing or two about creating a splash across the web. The band made waves in 2007 with their grindcore version of Soulja Boy’s “Crank Dat,” which has garnered over 9 million listens to date on their Myspace page, and is featured on their recently released debut album, You Can’t Spell Slaughter Without Laughter, out on Epitaph Records. Witty, bored and immensely creative, the band has put out a steady stream of webisodes, skits and even a musical!
Despite being slightly less than well-received by the music press who didn’t get the comedic irony of You Can’t Spell Slaughter Without, I Set My Friends on Fire are doing what they do and winning legions of young fans online and in-person. The record melds the band’s unique sense of humor (as evidenced by song titles like “Beauty is in the Eye of the Beerholder” and “Things that Rhyme With Orange”) with an onslaught of thrash angular guitar riffs, pulsing dance beats, brutal breakdowns, sassy screams and lush melodic choruses.
