CARBON/SILICON TO PLAY AT AWARDS SHOW AND LIVE BROADCAST ON MYSPACE
LOS ANGELES, CA (April 17, 2008) - Mick Jones, founding member of The Clash, Big Audio Dynamite and Carbon/Silicon, will receive the Inspiration Award at the NME Awards USA in Los Angeles on April 23.
Jones, who was voted NME's Godlike Genius in the UK with his Clash bandmates in 2003, will attend the inaugural U.S. event at Goldenvoice's historic El Rey Theatre to receive his Inspiration Award and perform with Carbon/Silicon, the band he fronts with fellow punk legend Tony James. Music fans can watch the awards, including the performance from Carbon/Silicon, live on MySpace.
NME Editor Conor McNicholas says: "The Inspiration Award is hotly debated amongst the NME editors, but the decision we reached was unanimous - Mick Jones is a true hero to NME. The Clash were the magnificent reason most of us got into alternative music in the first place, but Mick has never been one to rest on his laurels. With Big Audio Dynamite he pioneered sampling techniques and helped introduce hip-hop to reggae and rock. And still not content with that, he now fronts Carbon/Silicon, discovering yet more new ways to excite us."
"Mick is an innovator, a visionary, a class songwriter, a great singer and a demon guitarist - but that's not all," McNicholas continues. "He truly is an inspiration. His restless spirit recently drew him to produce The Libertines and to collaborate with Richard Archer of Hard Fi among others - Mick providing the young head on old shoulders - or should that be the other way round? Mick's spirit, sense of mischief and dedication to the rock 'n' roll cause make it a realy pleasure and honour for NME to name him our Inspiration Award winner in 2008. We are also thrilled that Carbon/Silicon will be performing at the event, and can't wait to see what they've got up their sleeves on what promises to be a brilliant night."
The NME Awards USA, will be streamed live on Myspace on April 23 at 9pm (PST). Hosted by actor/comedian Jim Jeffries, music fans will see performances from Carbon/Silicon, The Lemonheads, Does It Offend You, Yeah? and Har Mar Superstar, with more to be announced. |
