Jamaica's Reggae Sunsplash festival is returning as an entire tour, with plans to visit 17 U.S. cities this August and September.
As previously announced, the famed event will return to Jamaica August 3-6 after a nine-year hiatus. Immediately afterward, a number of artists will pack up and fly to the U.S. for a traveling version that will hit amphitheatres across the country starting August 10 in West Palm Beach, Fla.
UB40, Maxi Priest, Toots & The Maytals, Third World, and Rik Rock are confirmed to appear on the tour, which will hit Brooklyn, Boston, Las Vegas, Southern California and more, finishing in West Valley City, Utah, September 4.
Longtime Reggae Sunsplash host Tommy Cowan will appear on the trek, which will also feature Jamaican food and crafts fairs.
The tour is being co-produced by 21st Century Artists, Inc., and the family of late Reggae Sunsplash founder Tony Johnson.
"We are here to celebrate the great sounds from the island of Jamaica and honor the memory of my dad's efforts in bringing the music and message to people of all races, creeds and color," co-producer TJ Johnson said.
"Sunsplash has always been about spreading the message of 'Jah,' one-love, peace and harmony across the continent and around the globe - and now that will continue." |
