In case you were disappointed by the lack of pounding drum beats on Phil Collins' recent work, the British singer has lifted the hopes of many Genesis fans, saying a reunion could happen.
Although the details are vague, Collins told the Associated Press, "There is a possibility. I'm open for it". Oddly, he made this announcement while on his farewell tour — he says he's retiring from solo touring to spend more time with his family.
Genesis formed in 1967. Collins, who is currently touring in the Middle East, originally played drums, but took over Peter Gabriel's lead vocal duties when he left in 1975 to start a solo career. Genesis disbanded in 1998, though Collins had already started focusing on his solo career and the band were using a relatively unknown lead singer, Ray Wilson, when they split. Collins last tour of duty with the band was in 1995.
Collins even speculated that he's into the idea of reuniting the original Genesis with Gabriel at the front of the stage.
"I'm happy to sit behind the drum kit and let Peter [Gabriel] be the singer, but if it happens, I'll be there," Collins said.
Gabriel may be too busy for this reunion as he's currently co-ordinating the opening ceremonies for the World Cup.
