Share in the creative process! Remix “Atomic Heels,” the first single from the Secret Machines’ upcoming full-length, Secret Machines, through an exclusive contest on the band’s new social network, thesecretmachines.com.

BrandonAppleLoops “ATOMIC PURGATORY!” exclaims Brandon Curtis, the vocalist/ keyboardist/bass player and principal songwriter behind the Secret Machines. The psychedelic New York trio’s founding member has just come out of self-imposed exile after being isolated i
n a 6 x 6-foot room at Electric Lady Studios for the last 10 days, while he used Apple Loops to tackle the preparation of stems for the upcoming “Atomic Heels” Remix Contest for GarageBand.

This is the first time the Secret Machines have made their music available as raw files, meaning that what was once a heavily guarded secret of sonic alchemy is now essentially up for grabs and encouraged freely for the world to mangle. “To be honest, at first I didn’t really grasp why we would want to do this, Secret Machines weren’t initially on the bandwagon of high-profile remix enthusiasts,” admits Curtis. “For us right now the most important priority is connecting with our fans. To celebrate the release of our first single, “Atomic Heels,” we decided that there was no better gift than to let them explore and experiment with our music – have them feel the same excitement we first felt when we laid down the tracks for this song at New York’s Magic Shop Studios. So yes, it’s about technology, but it’s also about embracing how this technology impacts us artistically, by allowing us to make our music available for the first time in an interactive way. As the traditional label industry keeps changing, and the sale of recorded music keeps dwindling, we’re thrilled to be among a growing number of artists that now provide our fans with a dynamic digital means to distribute our music, for free, among themselves. We can’t wait to hear what they come up with.”

The remix contest runs from October 14 through November 2, when the Secret Machines will be announcing the winner online, the day before their performance at The Independent in San Francisco. Contest prizes include a pre-loaded Nano Chromatic featuring the new album and video, as well as a limited edition EP issued on TSM Recordings, which will include the winning remix and other exclusive tracks.
