Two Tone Records exhibit now on display at Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame launched a new spotlight exhibit in early December of 2012 highlighting the British ska label Two-Tone Records.
The record label was founded by Jerry Dammers, keyboardist and primary songwriter for Conventry based ska band the Specials, in 1979. Following its establishment, the label would go on to release material from some of the most important ska bands of this era
including the Specials, Madness, The (English) Beat, and The Selecter, among many others. The label is also known for introducing some of the most iconic imagery associated with ska including the black and white checkered logo as well as Walt Jabsco, both created by Dammers with the assistance of some associates. Two-Tone Records ceased operations in 1986 but its music influenced an entire generation of bands who would gain popularity in the mid-late 1990s.
The new exhibit features many artifacts including records, handwritten lyrics, photographs, and musical instruments. Some of the highlights include Dave Wakeling’s Custom Guitar, various badges and lapel pins from the label, and studio artifacts from Madness.
There is no word on how long the exhibit will be on display but it is currently in the Ahmet Ertegun Main Exhibition Hall at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Ohio.
