Buffalo, NY - Two very important non-for-profit organizations, Music is Art Foundation and Summit Educational Resources, have announced a partnership to raise awareness and bring educational and therapeutic services to children with learning and/or behavioral challenges through music. One of the goals of this partnership is to raise funds to support research on Autism and the effect that music has on children with this lifelong neurological disorder. Among the big fundraising plans is the release of the MUSIC IS HOPE compilation CD including previously unreleased music from The Goo Goo Dolls, Ani DiFranco and Amungus, Katrina Carlson, Last Conservative and The Juliet Dagger. Music Is Hope will be released on Good Charamel Records on November 1, 2005 and will be available on the Music is Art (www.musicisart.org) for $10. All proceeds generated from the CD will be directed the research initiative by Music is Art and Summit.

Robby Takac, founding member/bassist for multi-platinum selling artists The Goo Goo Dolls and president of the Music is Art Foundation, has been instrumental in bringing music and art back into high school curriculums throughout Western New York. His Music is Art Awareness Tour directly addresses the needs of disenfranchised students by reinforcing the notion that self-motivation positively impacts personal satisfaction and fulfillment. It is a free music awareness tour that features a performance and brief lecture from national recording artists such as Last Conservative and The Juliet Dagger.

"The Music is Art Foundation hopes to play a small part in learning more about the role that music plays in the management and therapy of these special children and adults," explains Takac. "We hope to aim our attention on the need for safe and effective interventions and valid research for teaching children with autism and other developmental disorders that are occurring in near epidemic-proportions."

With more than 25 years of service to children with disabilities and their families, Summit Educational Resources has grown to become the largest private provider of academic and therapeutic services to children with autism and related behavioral challenges in Western New York. Summit serves children from birth to age 21, from 42 school districts. Each year, they serve 1600 children and their families in school-based, community-based and home-based programs.

"This partnership is a major step toward involving community partners to help children with autism and other communications or behavioral challenges. With music and art as the main tools, both Music is Art and Summit Educational Resources hope to achieve their goal of helping these children and young adults lead full and productive lives," Takac said.
