The latest movie starring Adam Sandler is Pixels, directed by Christopher Columbus. It could have been a movie that got him out of that decade long funk but Sandler continues to phone it in. The movie also stars Kevin James so the bar is very very low. But Pixels does have Peter Dinklage, Michelle Monaghan and Josh Gad in it though. The movie premise is that aliens receive a video game feed from space and think it’s a declaration of war. They decide to send Pac-Man, Donkey Kong and other classic video games and attack Earth. The arcade nerds have to save the day. Will the movie be any good though, I seriously doubt it.

The film score is done by Henry Jackman, who has done recent scores of Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Big Hero 6, X-Men: First Class, Wreck-It Ralph, Captain Phillips, and loads of other scores. Jackman’s score for Pixels seems short and serves it purpose as a score for a movie. I just don’t know if it works by itself or works without seeing the movie. Many of the tracks are under 2 minutes long, what is this a punk album? So by the time you’re getting into a track, it’s over. Towards the end of the score, tracks like “Roll Out The Barrels,” “High Score,” and the bonus track “Arcaders ‘82” make the score worthwhile.

Bottom Line: An okay score for probably a very bad movie.
Notable Tracks: Power Up, Gobble or Be Gobbled, Shoot Em Up, High Score
