As the great Brick Tamland once said “LOUD NOISES!!!” These guys should be on Roadrunner or some metal label instead of Epitaph. But the label has been signing people they wouldn’t have signed 5 years ago. Parkway Drive is from the land Down Under and you wouldn’t know from hearing this album one bit. I didn’t hear any dingo, vegemite sandwich or shrimp on the Barbie references so it’s hard to tell.

As soon as I put the album on, I thought I put in some Cannibal Corpse album or something. Sometimes the singer does that death metal growl, and then he goes back to growling like he might be in a hardcore or screamo band. Honestly though, I don’t think of hardcore when I hear this band. I like the reference to Lock Stock and 2 Smoking Barrels with the naming of the song “Guns For Show, Knives for a Pro.” Unless they just have that saying down in Australia, I don’t know. I actually like this album because the band doesn’t slow it down that much and there is a lot of screaming and growling. The one thing that stood out in my mind wasn’t any particular song but the guitars. They just were really fast and sounded really cool. It’s hard to explain I guess. Overall, I’m surprised I like this CD but I have been in a metal & hardcore mood lately. If like bands like Bleeding Through, Unearth; then Parkway Drive is something you might like as well.

Bottom Line: Metal from the land Down Under that’s actually pretty cool. I like this.
