The Big Bang Theory’s fifth season is now available on Blu-Ray, DVD, and Ultraviolet combo from Paramount/CBS. I’m a big fan of The Big Bang Theory and the fifth season offers up plenty of laughs!

When we last left the group, it appeared like Penny & Raj ended up sleeping with each other in a drunken bender. Priya was going back to India and Leonard had to deal with that. So the first episode starts up with that and that and the result of it. Meanwhile, Sheldon is trying to lead the team in paintball but none of them are into it this time around.

After that, the general season is about Amy and Sheldon continuing their weird relationship, Leonard and Priya break up (thank you!) and Penny and Leonard give it another shot. Howard and Bernadette prepare for the married life and Howard is chosen to go up into space at the International Space Station. Meanwhile Raj is left in the dust with not having anyone in his life like the others. Poor Raj. I have a feeling they will give him some sort of girlfriend in the new season. Although Raj finds love in Season 5, but in the form of a certain white cell phone.

I own all the DVDs and Blu-Rays of The Big Bang Theory, I watch the show on CBS and I watch it the million times TBS airs the reruns. So I guess its safe to say I like the show. I just hope with TBS airing it so much that it won’t be overkill. But I haven’t seen these episodes too many times on TBS thankfully…yet anyway.

This season is really funny, but if I had to be critical; I’d think the best seasons of the show were the first 3 seasons. The show is still hilarious, and one of my favorites but feel that the earlier seasons were the strongest. I did think the writers improved on some things from last season though. They got rid of Priya, which no fault to the actress, her character was kryptonite to the dynamic of the group. Having Amy and Bernadette part of Penny’s crew adds something else to the show now. It’s not just a bunch of nerds and one girl now. But glad to see Penny back in the fold amongst the guys again. I think Big Bang Theory could use some more nerdy or pop culture stuff added in the show instead of having just a bunch of nerds getting girlfriends & wives. Although, Leonard Nimoy and Dr Hawking did guest star on the show so not sure how nerdy you can get with that.

As much as I love the show, like I said above, I just think the show is best when Sheldon isn’t in a relationship. I really like Mayim Bialik on the show and actually think she had the funniest lines on the show, I just think it would have been best if they never made them a couple. It’s funnier having them as two Humanoids like the way they were before season 4/5. Her character has kind of changed since the first time we saw her. I know i’m contradicting myself by saying these stuff but it’s just an opinion. The show still works the way it is and still one of my favorites, I just think it would be even funnier if they stuck to what they had in the first few seasons. I’m curious to see what will happen with all the couples on the show for Season 6, and whether or not Sheldon and Amy break up or take the next step. Either way I’ll be there watching.

The Blu-Ray special features consist of a few featurettes: 100 episodes featurette, a look back at the season, gag reel and something else. A gag reel is always something I have to watch because seeing people mess up amuses me. The other featurettes were interesting and provided me with enough behind the scenes stuff I look for in Blu-Rays.

I think The Big Bang Theory season 5 was a better season than 4 but still think the first two seasons were the best. The show is still extremely funny and it’s one of the few shows I can put on and never get sick of it.
