I’ll be back…on Blu-Ray again. The classic James Cameron movie, The Terminator, gets the remastered treatment on Blu-Ray! While I don’t like The Terminator as much as Terminator 2, this is still worth owning if you don’t own this on Blu-Ray already.
An indestructible terminator cyborg (Ahnuld) is sent back in time in the big hair era to kill Sarah Connors (Linda Hamilton) Why kill her? Well she’s the future mother to John Connor duh! Kyle Reese (Michael Biehn), a dedicated soldier to John Connor also goes back into the 80s and helps Sarah Connor stop the Terminator.
It’s been awhile since last seeing the Terminator, but I felt like it was really dated. Sure, it’s a classic but a lot of the scenes seem silly to watch now. The 80s score doesn’t help either. Maybe it’s because I’m more of a fan of T2: Judgment Day. There are still some great scenes in Terminator, like in the beginning of the movie with a young punk played by Bill Paxton getting his ass handed to him by Arnold. Or the classic I’ll Be Back scene and Arnold wrecking havoc in the police station. The action scenes were awesome back in the day, but I think everything in this movie gets trounced by T2’s action scenes. You just can’t compare.
This Blu-Ray is a remastered edition and it’s still noticeable how grainy the movie was. So if this is the best the movie is going to look, this movie must have looked incredibly crappy in the previous Blu-Ray and DVD editions. But it is what it is, if you want to own the Blu-Ray, obviously this is the best option. I believe the extras included on this were already used in previous versions but I could be mistaken. Either way, it’s nothing new here. The main selling point of this is the remastered version of the movie.
Terminator is a classic action movie but I kind of feel it’s a bit outdated now. It’s still worth watching for parts of the movie, or if you’ve never seen any of the Terminator movies. You got to start with the first movie, and then go to the far superior second film.
