One of the best perks of working for a mildly successful internet entertainment site is getting to see blockbuster movies even before the stars get to see them. I was entitled to a private screening last weekend and I have a few things to say about this movie.
Firstly and foremostly, I really didn't understand the need for the black suit. Who does Spidey think he is, Batman? I was almost expecting nipples like on the Batman suit. Either way, this one is far different than the Spiderman we all know and love. He's way angrier, and he even beats up innocent civilians! I swear, it was like Grand Theft Auto. Except with Spiderman.
Now although that paragraph might make it sound like I didn't like this movie, I sorta really did. I'm not even sure what the whole plot was, but there were some amazing action scenes. My favourite was the one where the Green Goblin attacks Spiderman. But get this - he's not in his uniform so he can't fling webs or climb up walls! It's pretty crazy.
You know what else is crazy? How hot Kristen Dunst is! I even sat through that weird foreign movie Marie Antoinette just to see her hotness. She is equally hot in this one too. And even though there's no rainy scene where you can almost see her nipples, she is still very sexy. Tobey Maguire is pretty lucky to get to work with her.
Now as for villains, I didn't really like these ones as much as the ones in the first two movies. Sandman is totally lame. I guess sand is a cool thing to shoot. But you know what would be cooler? Fire! Or ninja stars! Who the fuck cares about sand? And then there's Eddy Brock, who all you comic book nerds know will eventually turn into Venom. But he doesn't even turn into Venom until the twist ending where he sneaks up and kills Mary Jane (oops....spoilers....). So I mean Spiderman doesn't even get a chance to fight him. The worst one is Green Goblin. He's actually really cool, but they used him already. Twice! If they were going to bring anyone back, they should've brought back Doc Ock. He was the coolest.
So overall, I have to say that the movie isn't as good as the first two, but it's worth seeing, if only for the awesome action and the special effects. Did I mention that there's also an awesome cameo by Bruce Campbell as ASH FROM EVIL DEAD? Because there is. It's hard to see, but if you look closely enough, you'll see him. |
