The Blind Side surprised me a bit. I wasn’t expecting to like this movie this much. Sandra Bullock just won an Oscar for her performance in the movie, and the film was also nominated for Best Picture. Thankfully I decided to watch this movie because I ended up really liking it.

Recap: 82nd Academy Awards (winners and comments)

The 82nd Academy Awards aired last night and I’m assuming most of you saw it, well unless you live in the NY area and have Cablevision, then you missed the first 20 minutes. I don’t know what side is right or wrong, maybe they are both greedy pricks? I particularly hate Cablevision and The Dolans so I think it’s their fault haha. How convenient they are the one always in the middle of these disputes with the studios. But enough with that, the big news last night was that The Hurt Locker got 6 Oscars. The Hurt Locker and director Kathryn Bigelow beat out Avatar and James Cameron for Best Picture and Best Director. I think that was a little bit surprising. I would have thought that the two movies would have been split down the middle. Honestly, I didn’t like Hurt Locker. It was a bit boring, long, and not Best Picture quality in my mind.

The Lovely Bones DVD and Blu-Ray coming out April 20th

Peter Jackson’s The Lovely Bones will be out on DVD and Blu-Ray April 20th from Paramount Home Entertainment! I heard the book is good but different than the movie. I’m not sure how either are or if I’ll even end up liking this or not. But since it’s Peter Jackson, I’ll at least give the movie a chance and see it when it comes on DVD. Anyone else see this?

Recap: 61st Emmy Awards (Winners and Comments)

articles_emmys2009recap
The Emmys were on last night and for the most part, they were as predictable as ever. 30 Rock, Mad Men, Breaking Bad, Daily Show zZzZz. Wake me up when someone else finally wins something. 30 Rock is good but I feel The Office or something deserves to win for a chance. I was even hoping for an upset and seeing Family Guy win. I swear it’s the same actors and actresses winning every year. One shocker was when the brilliant Michael Emerson won the Emmy for Best Supporting Actor in a Drama for LOST. It was nice to see 24 represented with Cherry Jones winning, but that makes me wonder. Why the hell didn’t Dennis Haysbert ever win an Emmy for his role for David Palmer? He definitely played a better president than she did. Other than that, same old same old.

The latest movie from Greg Mottola, the director of Superbad, gives off a Little Miss Sunshine feel. It’s got some funny moments, but I wouldn’t necessarily file this movie under comedy at the video store.

The first season of Californication was excellent and just something I never really saw on TV before. The ending was kind of lame but the rest of the season was hilarious, and offered a nice mix of comedy and drama. The same applies for Season 2 of the Showtime show.

I didn’t know much about Gran Torino except Clint Eastwood plays a grumpy racist war vet. From having no expectations of the film, I ended up really enjoying Gran Torino.

Revolutionary Road reunites Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet again and the result is excellent. The story is just a bit of a downer so if you can stomach 2 hours of a couple fighting and doing stuff they’re not supposed to be doing, than by all means see Revolutionary Road.
