Recap: 82nd Academy Awards (winners and comments)

The 82nd Academy Awards aired last night and I’m assuming most of you saw it, well unless you live in the NY area and have Cablevision, then you missed the first 20 minutes. I don’t know what side is right or wrong, maybe they are both greedy pricks? I particularly hate Cablevision and The Dolans so I think it’s their fault haha. How convenient they are the one always in the middle of these disputes with the studios. But enough with that, the big news last night was that The Hurt Locker got 6 Oscars. The Hurt Locker and director Kathryn Bigelow beat out Avatar and James Cameron for Best Picture and Best Director. I think that was a little bit surprising. I would have thought that the two movies would have been split down the middle. Honestly, I didn’t like Hurt Locker. It was a bit boring, long, and not Best Picture quality in my mind.

The 82nd Academy Award nominations announced!

The nominations for 82nd Academy Awards were announced this morning! Not really any surprises or shockers here, more of the same from the other award shows we’ve seen. About the only change is seeing 10 movies being nominated instead of 5 for Best Picture. The result of that is seeing movies like District 9, Up and Blind Side being nominated. Avatar and Hurt Locker both scored 9 nominations and that looks like the movies to beat this year. Personally, hoping Avatar wins a lot this year. I’m just glad stupid Glee won’t be ruining this awards show! Read the full list below:

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows and other movies coming to 3-D?

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows and Clash of the Titans are the next big movies going the 3-D route. While I don’t mind the 3-D glasses and paying the extra money for movies worth seeing, I foresee studios over-doing it just to climb onto that 3-D Avatar train. “Hey, Avatar beat Titanic because of 3-D sales, let’s do it too!” Harry Potter movie in 3-D sounds awesome though, but call me skeptical about this whole 3-D experience stuff. What’s next, seeing every movie in 3-D just because every filmmaker has the ability too? I hope we don’t see Sex and the City 2 in 3-D. Nothing like seeing Samantha’s knee knockers protruding off the screen.

2010 Golden Globe winners & recap

The Golden Globes aired on NBC (Nothing But Crap) last night, and the award show was hosted by Ricky Gervais. He was very funny, as usual, and glad he finally hosted an awards show! I’ve been saying that for years that he needed to host one of those award shows. Since Golden Globes doesn’t really have a host, he was very under-used. His jokes about Paul McCartney and Mel Gibson were particularly great! Avatar was the big winner of the night, winning Best Picture and Best Director. That shocked me because I didn’t think people would vote for that. I thought Hurt Locker or Up in the Air were going to clean up last night.
