Music Video: Band Of Horses – “Out in Nature” (Yo Gabba Gabba)

Rolling Stone has posted a video from the acid tripping surreal Nickelodeon show Yo Gabba Gabba, featuring Band of Horses. The indie rock band perform a peppy little ditty called “Out in Nature.” I’m sure they wrote this while smoking on some nature too haha. The episode will also feature appearances by the Decemberists, Biz Markie and 30 Rock star Jack McBrayer.

Franz Nicolay touring with David Dondero

Hot off the heels of an east coast tour with Stornoway and a European tour alongside Jack Terricloth (World/Inferno Friendship Society) and Dave Hause (the Loved Ones), FRANZ NICOLAY has announced tour plans in support of his recently released, Luck & Courage. NICOLAY will head out on a 7 week US tour with David Dondero that will include SXSW dates. NPR’s All Songs Considered named Dondero one of their “Ten Greatest Living Songwriters”, alongside Bob Dylan and Tom Waits; and Conor Oberst calls him his biggest influence. Plus he was This Bike Is A Pipe Bomb’s drummer for a couple years. “I think this is an interesting pairing of songwriters with one foot in indie-rock and one foot in punk rock” says NICOLAY of the pairing.

Brookhaven – “When The Chorus Walks”

Record Label: Expel Records
Genre: Indie/Instrumental
Band Link: www.myspace.com/brkhvn
Buy on Amazon.com

Guitar-based ambient instrumental stuff. I’ll be honest – it was hard to get through this. Experimental is one thing, but long songs with softly plucked guitar and gentle percussion that fail to go anywhere are not enjoyable.

We Are Scientists – “Barbara”

Record Label: Masterswan Records
Genre: Indie Rock

We Are Scientists is a name that I’ve seen pop up many times and seen them playing the area. I don’t recall ever hearing their stuff besides the catchy tune “After Hours” from Nick & Norah’s Infinite Playlist. I could be wrong though; their music sounds very familiar. Even though I didn’t really know much about the band, I definitely like their music now.

Thieves and Villains hail from the Hudson Valley, which is where I’m from. They play indie rock/emo/whatever you want to call but honestly, I never heard of them before or seen them live. Their new album South America came out in August on Victory Records and it’s actually a breathe of fresh air to not hear a metal band on Victory Records.
