It’s March and we all know what that means! St Patrick’s Day is right around the corner. This month’s ReadJunk Playlist is dedicated to Celtic and folk songs that will get you in the green spirit; and well for others the drinking spirit! This playlist is an easy one for me considering this is one of my favorite genres of music and something I listen to all year round. I’m not one of those phony “Kiss Me I’m Irish” people that breaks out their shirt and stupid green and white Mad Hater hat every year. Perhaps this playlist will give you a bit of a variety than just listening to Dropkick Murphys or Flogging Molly. Here we go!

R.E.M. will release a brand-new double live album, entitled R.E.M. Live At The Olympia on October 27th, 2009 via Warner Bros. Records. The two-CD set, produced by Jacknife Lee, features 39 songs that capture the best moments from the band’s 2007 “working rehearsals” at Dublin’s fabled Olympia club where singer Michael Stipe, guitarist Peter Buck, and bassist Mike Mills tested out new songs for R.E.M.’s 2008 studio album Accelerate.

I had the pleasure of seeing Jerry Fish perform with Sharon Shanon and Carol Keogh in Dublin, Ireland recently. I’ve never heard of Jerry Fish and the Mudbug Club before then but now i’m a huge fan! They performed the brilliant single “Back to Before” from their new album “The Beautiful Untrue” plus their old hit song “True Friends.” Since there’s no video for “Back to Before,” here’s the video for the song “True Friends.” Jerry Fish and the Mudbug Club sounds like a cross between Shane Macgowan, Tom Waits, DeVotchKa and Dean Martin. Check it out!

I recently visited Dublin, Ireland with my girlfriend Kristen. We had a blast and managed to see a lot in 7 days. We walked all over the city and saw Cathedrals, museums, a Zoo, a prison, saw a few Castles, went in a few pubs, did some shopping and even checked out a few things outside the city as well. We went to the West Coast of Ireland one day and saw the Cliffs of Moher (Insanity! – Princess Bride reference). We spent some time in the seaside towns of Malahide, and Howth and walked around the Powerscourt Gardens estate, and Glendalough. All in all, it was a great trip and I would love to go back to Ireland, but this time see more of the countryside. Throughout the trip, I took lots of photographs and wrote about them on my photography website SkaPunkPhotos.com. Here’s a list of the blog postings, along with a few photos:

I’m off to Dublin, Ireland tonight! I booked this trip with my girlfriend in the beginning of the month, and now we’re leaving already. Time flies! We’ll be spending a week there, and leaving 80 degree NY for 50 degree Ireland. I don’t mind so much, as long as it stays somewhat dry. With me being on vacation for a week, there will be no time to update ReadJunk.com but you might see an update here and there from my brother.

If you are not in the spirit already, than sit back and enjoy some music videos from some classics in Celtic, and Celtic Rock.
First up, The Pogues. I did not get a chance to see them in the city this past weekend, but I’ve seen them 3 or 4 times now and maybe I will get to see them again next year.
