Bryan’s Year In Review 2011

2011 was a great year for me personally. Got married, went to Paris for our Honeymoon, and moved to Jersey city. 2011 was also great in music and movies as well but think 2012 will be even better with movies. The Hobbit, Dark Knight Rises and the Avengers! Wowza! In 2012, ReadJunk.com/Ska Punk Other Junk will be 15 years old! The site is still going (not strongly haha, but still going). I’ll also be starting a new web venture that I’m looking forward to starting but I’ll talk more about in the upcoming months. For now, see what I liked/disliked of 2011! Happy New Year Folks!

Mighty Mighty Bosstones – “The Magic of Youth”

Record Label: Big Rig Records
Genre: Ska
Band Link: www.bosstonesmusic.com
Buy on Amazon.com

The Mighty Mighty Bosstones’ ninth album proves that the band still has what it takes to make an excellent ska album! “The Magic of Youth” is more in lined with their previous album “Pin Points and Gin Joints” than their very early stuff. Honestly, I’m fine with that since I really liked “Pin Points and Gin Joints.” With their last two albums, the band has gone back to their ska roots and have made some catchy, solid skankable tunes!

ReadJunk Playlist - Christmas and Hanukkah Songs

ReadJunk Playlist: December 2010 (The Holiday Playlist)

We’re in the middle of the holiday season and what better way to celebrate with an overload and abundance of Jingle Bells and Santa songs! Yippee! Most of these tracks are ones I like, some aren’t but felt the need to list them anyway. I tried to find some Hanukkah songs but only managed to find a couple. I did brief blurbs for the first 30 tracks, then just listed the rest because what can you say about the same songs over and over again? If I missed a song, post it in the comments!

ReadJunk Playlist: November 2010 (Skanksgiving Edition Playlist)

Bad ska puns aside, I’ve been meaning to do a ska playlist for some time now but felt like now was a good time. Pretty much, I couldn’t think of a November playlist theme. Voting songs? eh, maybe. Thanksgiving songs? Do they even exist? This November “Skanksgiving“ playlist is simply a list of my favorite ska bands and songs. Songs I’ve listened to over the years, ones that got me into ska music, etc. Just an excellent mix of Jamaica ska, 2 tone, Third wave, ska punk, ska core and every other sub-genre you can think of. Check it out rude boys and rude girls!
