83rd Annual Academy Award Winners

The 83rd Annual Academy Awards (Oscars) happened last night, uneventful and predictable as usual. Hosts James Franco and Anne Hathaway did a bland job and their intro sucked. I felt like I was watching some dated MTV Movie Awards ceremony. Awful. You know jokes are dated when they bring up Back to the Future references.

RIP: John Barry (Dances With Wolves, James Bond)

Film composer John Barry has passed away at the age of 77; he died Sunday in New York of a heart attack. Barry has won 5 Oscars in the past, and known for his brilliant score work for Dances With Wolves, various James Bond movies, Born Free, Lion In Winter, Out Of Africa, Mary Queen of Scots, Cry The Beloved Country, and Midnight Cowboy. His Dances With Wolves score is by far one of my favorite scores and I really consider that one a masterpiece. It’s flawless. John Barry and his music will be missed! Time to put on the Dances With Wolves score….

80s Movie Soundtracks

ReadJunk Playlist: October 2010 (80s Movie Soundtracks Playlist)

Let’s just get this out of the way, ‘80s movies are awesome! Besides the movies themselves, what makes the ‘80s movie so great is the music. I guess it depends if you liked the music from that decade though. The ReadJunk Playlist of October isn’t Halloween themed because we did that last year, but it’s ‘80s movie soundtracks! I practically list every song from an ‘80s movie but I’m sure I forgot or omitted a few. Some of the songs below might not be on the official soundtracks but could definitely be heard in the movie or tied to the movie in some way. Don’t be a pencil neck, check out the ‘80s soundtracks playlist below!

Recap: 82nd Academy Awards (winners and comments)

The 82nd Academy Awards aired last night and I’m assuming most of you saw it, well unless you live in the NY area and have Cablevision, then you missed the first 20 minutes. I don’t know what side is right or wrong, maybe they are both greedy pricks? I particularly hate Cablevision and The Dolans so I think it’s their fault haha. How convenient they are the one always in the middle of these disputes with the studios. But enough with that, the big news last night was that The Hurt Locker got 6 Oscars. The Hurt Locker and director Kathryn Bigelow beat out Avatar and James Cameron for Best Picture and Best Director. I think that was a little bit surprising. I would have thought that the two movies would have been split down the middle. Honestly, I didn’t like Hurt Locker. It was a bit boring, long, and not Best Picture quality in my mind.
