The 38th season of Saturday Night Live is in the books. SNL finished its season this past weekend with host Ben Affleck and musical guest Kanye West. The season finale saw the departure of longtime cast members Fred Armisen and Bill Hader. With the season now at a close, it is time to take a look back at some of the best skits and shorts of the 2012-2013 Season.
Gee we’ve all heard this one before. NBC is replacing Jay Leno (again) of the Tonight Show gig in 2014 and Late Night host Jimmy Fallon will be taking over hosting duties. Seth Myers has been rumored to take over Late Night. In future news, NBC has decided to rip up Jimmy Fallon’s contract and replace Fallon with Jay Leno.

Parenthood is based off the 1989 movie, directed by Ron Howard and starring Steve Martin. This is the second time Parenthood has been attempted as a TV series but seems to be working so far. This soundtrack features music from popular indie & folk artists, as well as Bob Dylan.

Gwar have a new album out called Bloody Pit of Horror on Metal Blade Records. The metal band paid Late Night with Jimmy Fallon a visit Thursday night. The Ghosthunters and Dana Carvey were also on the show. Oderus giant penis was missing from the broadcast, but I think that’s a good thing! the song they played that night was “Zombies, March!” Check it out after the jump:

The Specials played their first USA performance in over 30 years at Late Night with Jimmy Fallon last night. Neville was absent from the TV performances but I think he’ll be at the actual shows. Think he was under the weather? The band played “A Message to You, Rudy” on TV and for a web exclusive on NBC.com, you can also watch them perform “Little Bitch!” CAN’T WAIT FOR THEIR SHOWS IN NYC! Check them out below:

The funniest late night talk show host, Conan O’Brien, is officially leaving NBC after 2 weeks of settlement talks. Everyone should know all the news by now so no point in recapping it for you. The talks were signed this morning, and Conan’s last show will be Friday night when he has Will Ferrell and Tom Hanks on his show. The two actors were the first guest on Conan’s short-lived Tonight Show which only started back in June. The unfunny Jay Leno will return to the Tonight Show March 1st.

Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the last 2 weeks, you know there’s a bunch of bullshit going on with The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien. NBC is getting pressured to move the Jay Leno Show since it sucks and sucked in the ratings. The result, bump Conan to 12:05am which is stupid since that wouldn’t be considered “tonight.”

The Monty Python gang (minus Michael Palin and the dead Graham Chapman) were guests on the cluserfuck show known as Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. Who knows why they decided to appear on his show, maybe having ties with Lorne Michaels and his show was in NYC? Jimmy Fallon really is an awful talk show host, but there were some nice moments in last night’s show. Eric Idle and the Roots performed “Always Look on the Bright Side of Life” from Monty Python’s Life of Brian. Check it out after the jump:

I knew it was only a matter of time that Will Forte’s MacGyver spoof MacGruber would be turned into a movie! It’s probably the funniest sketch on SNL these days. I seriously can’t wait for this movie because I think it’s going to be a smash hit! That is, if the script and acting is up to par. I mean, anything can be better than Ladies Man and Superstar. I just hope they can make this movie into something that’s consistently funny, because these skits are so short. As far as casting is concerned, no word yet about Richard Dean Anderson making an appearance. Kristen Wiig will reprise her role as Vicki, MacGruber’s sidekick. Val Kilmer and Ryan Phillipe are in talks to star in the movie as well. Filming starts up next month!

For those who don’t know, Heroes is the TV series that airs on NBC and is about the lives of ordinary people who find out that they have superpowers. It stars Hayden Panettierre, Milo Ventimiglia, Masi Oka, Adrian Pasdar, Zachary Quinto and many others. The first season was excellent and the rest of the seasons has been a hit or miss with me. Regardless of suckiness or not, one thing that stands out is the music from the show.

Triumph The Insult Comic Dog was making the rounds at Bonnaroo last weekend. Last night on The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien, Conan debuted the hilarious bit. He talks to TV on the Radio, Beastie Boys, and lots of hippies and drunk people. It’s perhaps the best segment he’s done since making fun of the Star Wars nerds at the Episode 1 premiere. Watch the 2 part segment after the jump:

Bad Karma indeed! My Name is Earl got canceled on NBC in May, but there was still hope of it coming back on the air via another network (TBS). I guess TBA and NBC negotiations crapped out and the show is officially dead. While I thought the series was starting to get stale at the end, I still tuned in each week. Oh well, I guess every show can’t be saved.
