RIP: Alistair Hulett (Roaring Jack)

Scottish folk singer Alistair Hulett of Roaring Jack has passed away due to complications of liver failure. I didn’t know he suffered liver failure until seeing on Shite N Onions that he was really ill. This is really sad news because Alistair Hullet was an excellent singer and songwriter who fronted the folk punk band Roaring Jack in Australia. After that band, he did mainly acoustic folk music and was just as successful. His talent will be missed! Time to go blare some Roaring Jack!! More after the jump:

RIP: Jay Reatard (Jimmy Lee Lindsey Jr.)

What people thought was just another Internet hoax, ended up being the truth. Jay Reatard (a.k.a Jimmy Lee Lindsey Jr.) has tragically passed away at the age of 29. The Memphis musician died in his sleep last night and was found at his home this morning. While I don’t know Jay Reatard’s music at all, I know he was well known. Either people liked him or they despised him. Like the guy or not, 29 is just too damn early for someone to die. Details are up in the air right now on what the cause of death is, so I’ll post that when the details come in.

RIP: Ken Ober (host of Remote Control)

ken ober has passed away
Ken Ober, Game show host/comedian of MTV’s Remote Control has passed away at the age of 52. Remote Control is probably one of my favorite shows on MTV, ya know; back when the shitty network was music-oriented. The show featured Colin Quinn as the sidekick and announcer. Also featured on the show during skits was Adam Sandler, Denis Leary and resident Skin-a-max actress Kari Wührer. Ken Ober was also a producer for Colin Quinn’s Tough Crowd on Comedy Central earlier this decade and The New Adventures of Old Christine. You might also know Ken Ober from various Blues Travelers video, a cameo in National Lampoon’s Loaded Weapon 1, and a writer for Mind of Mencia. The guy hasn’t been in a whole lot but anyone from the 80s certainly knows him as the host of Remote Control. Let’s hope MTV runs a marathon as a tribute to Ken. But they are probably too busy showing Road Rules 69: Sluts vs. Trannys.

RIP: Patrick Swayze

news_0909_patrickswayze
Ugh, I knew this was coming. Patrick Swayze lost his battle with pancreatic cancer today. Patrick most recent TV series The Beast was the last thing he starred in, and the show only lasted 1 season. From reports, he said the 12 hour work days were a bit too much for him and made him tired. Looking back on his career, I ended up liking a lot of Patrick Swayze movies: Youngblood, Red Dawn, Dirty Dancing (well it was ok haha), Ghost, Road House and Point Break. Youngblood is probably my favorite out of that batch because I love hockey movies.
