Riot Fest 2012 is happening in select cities the next few weeks and this weekend the fest was in Brooklyn and today in Toronto. Of course, the New York City date got the shit end of stick with the weather…and some will say the lineup as well. Not to dig other bands on the bill, but the other cities had a better lineup with even more bands. Even if there were more bands in Brooklyn, that just means more bands I wouldn’t have gotten to see.
It was only a matter of time for Riot Fest to branch out besides Chicago and Philly. Dates have been announced for Brooklyn, Dallas, Toronto and Philly (again). For the Brooklyn fest, Gogol Bordello is headlining with The Descendents, Hot Water Music, the Bronx, The Menzingers, Larry and his Flask, and Screaming Females on September 8th.
There is a video floating around on YouTube of a young lady on stage with Ted Leo and The Pharmacists performing a cover of “Since You’ve Been Gone.” Ted Leo’s personal rendition of the song had already been widely popular but in this version he left all the vocals to their female guest, Marissa Paternoster. She is the singer and guitarist for Screaming Females. While on tour with Ted Leo & The RX, someone heard Paternoster singing the tune backstage and insisted she perform the song that night. “They didn’t even rehearse or anything. It all happened during the show,” said Screaming Females drummer Jarrett Dougherty.
Just like the Pogues playing in UK, the Bosstones playing in Boston every year for the Holidays, now it’s becoming an annual thing with the Bouncing Souls as well! Right after Christmas on December 26th, the NJ punk band will be spending their final days of their 20th anniversary in craphole Asbury Park,NJ. Some of the bands playing their shows will be The Pietasters, Screaming Females, Chuck Ragan, Worthless United, Black Train Jack, Dave Hause, Static Radio NJ and Bayside. Check below for details:
