Nearly three years has passed when I last saw The Levellers perform and it has been far too long. My wife and I traveled to London during the holidays, and of course planned part of the vacation so we can catch The Levellers play at our familiar London stomping ground, Shepherd’s Bush Empire. A great venue in West London, that has a fun vibe to it and powerful sound. As usual, The Levellers were outstanding and did not disappoint.

It’s no secret that the Levellers is my favorite band. While I can’t cross the pond to go see them perform all the time, the next best thing is either their live DVDs or CDs. In this case, Live at Royal Albert Hall is a brand new live album, recorded at the famous Royal Albert Hall in London. The album is available through the band’s fanclub, or you can purchase a download version at iTunes internationally (yes it’s available on US iTunes as well)!

The Levellers are giving away a few free downloads this month. The first track is a live version of “Before the End” taken from their Royal Albert Hall show in London last year. The other track is not from the Levellers, but from ska/reggae band Pama International. Pama International is currently on tour with the Levs and Hobo Jones & The Junkyard Dogs.

The Levellers are messing with my mind. They really want me to fly over to England this year to see the Beautiful Days Festival? The initial lineup for the Levellers’ 2009 Beautiful Days Festival has been announced and The Levellers, the Pogues AND The Saw Doctors are all playing! 3 of my favorite bands, in the same festival! How awesome is that! The festival is happening August 21st-23rd at Escot Park, Ottery St Mary, Devon England.

Theres no hiding it. The Levellers are one of my favorite bands. Everything they have released is absolutely brilliant including their brand new album Letters from the Underground. It was released in the UK in August 2008 but there is currently no release date set for the USA. ReadJunk.com had the opportunity to send over some questions to Jeremy Cunningham of the Levellers. This is what he had to say:
“Letters From The Underground” is about to be released and I think its one of your best albums! Is it a little daunting to try to follow-up on an album that is (or will be) so well-received?
No, can always do better.

The Levellers are back with their 9th full-length release and I have to say, it’s probably their best album since Zeitgeist! The Levellers are one of my favorite bands and I have been looking forward to this release since Truth and Lies. While I liked that album a lot, I didn’t really like the production of it. It sounded like the producer cranked up all the volume settings and forgot to lower them when called for. This time around, they get help from Sean Lakeman and the album’s production is much better! There are 11 tracks in total and it was recorded at the band’s own studio, Metway Studios.
