2009 is almost over and it’s time for my Year in Review. Unlike other websites, I’m just doing a year in review. I’m not doing a “Decade in Review.” I can’t even remember last year so what makes you think I can remember an entire decade!? This year was another good year in music; movies…not so much. Don’t get me wrong, there were some great films, but there were also a lot of lackluster releases as well. Maybe I just haven’t seen enough movies this year? As well as movies, music, TV, I’ve also included a bunch of random things like I always do in my list. Now, onto the vast amount of lists:

A trend a lot of the studios are doing now, when shows go on long hiatuses, is to release a volume of the show before the shows returns to the air. Disney / Buena Vista is doing that with Flash Forward, considering the show doesn’t come back until March. Thanks Olympics ya jerks! The DVD will come out February 23rd 2010. But the show has been interesting so far, let’s hope it can sustain the interesting storyline and mysteries. I’m not going to say whether or not the show is going to be a Lost replacement just yet.

Mark Ritts has passed away at the age of 63. He was a writer, producer, director, actor and puppeteer; but he was most known for being the dopey tattoo-armed Lester The Rat on the kid’s science TV show Beakman’s World. I used to watch this show all throughout high school and Mark Ritts’ character was always funny to watch. Nothing like seeing this big guy with tattoos in a rat costume, like he had no choice but to be there. His zany antics will be missed!

The Golden Globes nominations were announced this morning. Like usual, nothing too shocking. Maybe that LOST wasn’t nominated for Best Drama again could be a shocker, considering that’s one of the best shows on TV right now. Lovely Bones didn’t get nominated, District 9 only got nominated for Best Screenplay but Avatar gets nominated for bunch of stuff? I guess the HFPA has to suck up to James Cameron. Modern Family was nominated so that was cool, I love that show. Up in the Air had the most movie noms with 6 but I think the Hurt Locker is the movie to watch out for this Awards season. Check out the full nomination list below:

The Mighty Mighty Bosstones just released a new album called “Pin Points & Gin Joints.” Haven’t heard it yet but I’m sure it sounds awesome. Dicky and the boys played Jimmy Kimmel Live Friday night and played “Graffiti Worth Reading” and “Don’t Worry Desmond Dekker.” Dicky seemed to be having a blast, considering he’s just performing on his full-time job. Some of the releases coming out today include: Lost Season 5, Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, Public Enemies, Julia and Julia and Rescue Me: Season 5, Volume 2. Each week I’ll list the latest DVD releases and point out the ones worth buying. I can’t review everything I get so this serves as a nice guide for what’s coming out each week. Plus, it’s just fun making fun of movies and TV shows. Each DVD title links to Amazon.com, where you can purchase the DVD(s).

The Simpsons Season 20 DVD and Blu-Ray have been announced for released on January 12th, 2010. Question is, why jump all those other season to release this? I guess since it’s their 20th season, that people might want to see it. This also marks the first time the show is in Hi-Def so that might be the other reason. I just hope they continue their plan to release the other seasons…even though they aren’t as good as the older seasons.

I don’t watch Jimmy Fallon usually, but this skit was pretty good. Jimmy dressed up like Neil Young and sang as him, singing the unlikely of songs..The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air theme song. The impersonation is quite good, plus Jimmy playing the guitar is equally impressive. Watch the video below:

Ken Ober, Game show host/comedian of MTV’s Remote Control has passed away at the age of 52. Remote Control is probably one of my favorite shows on MTV, ya know; back when the shitty network was music-oriented. The show featured Colin Quinn as the sidekick and announcer. Also featured on the show during skits was Adam Sandler, Denis Leary and resident Skin-a-max actress Kari Wührer. Ken Ober was also a producer for Colin Quinn’s Tough Crowd on Comedy Central earlier this decade and The New Adventures of Old Christine. You might also know Ken Ober from various Blues Travelers video, a cameo in National Lampoon’s Loaded Weapon 1, and a writer for Mind of Mencia. The guy hasn’t been in a whole lot but anyone from the 80s certainly knows him as the host of Remote Control. Let’s hope MTV runs a marathon as a tribute to Ken. But they are probably too busy showing Road Rules 69: Sluts vs. Trannys.
