Acclaimed U.K. Singer-Songwriter Readies for U.S. Debut With Digital-Only Releases

NEW YORK, May 31 /PRNewswire/ — Following a homemade, Mercury Prize-nominated album recorded for less than $600 in his brother’s kitchen, acclaimed British folk singer-songwriter Seth Lakeman will release his U.S. CD debut this fall. Back Porch Records, a division of Manhattan/EMI, has announced that the September album release will be preceded by two digital-only 3-track EP’s this summer. The two internet releases, INTRODUCING … SETH LAKEMAN, VOL. 1 and 2, will include material from his prior U.K. albums, previously unreleased in the U.S., as well as exclusive live tracks.

The BBC heralds Lakeman as “one of the leading lights of the new folk scene,” and said that Lakeman “performs passionate, evocative songs that celebrate love, history and honour.” Rolling Stone called Lakeman’s set at this year’s SXSW “revelatory.”

After performing with his siblings Sean and Sam in a group called The Lakeman Brothers, and performing on Cara Dillon’s self-titled debut album, Seth released his solo debut in 2002. His second album, KITTY JAY, was recorded for a cost of 300 pounds and received a nomination for the prestigious Mercury Music Prize. A third CD, FREEDOM FIELDS came out in 2006 earning Lakeman Singer of the Year and Best Album awards at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards.

Lakeman is currently recording his new album, which will be released simultaneously in the U.S. and the U.K. in September 2007. Prior to the CD release, he will be supporting Tori Amos on her U.K. tour, and performing at major summer festivals, including Glastonbury and The V Festival.

The 3-track digital bundle, featuring his single “Lady of The Sea,” comes out on June 26th, followed by a July 24th release of a second 3-track set including songs from FREEDOM FIELDS. The track listing for both releases is below:
