July 16, 2007 New York The Bad Brains first video off of Build A Nation has been finished by director and System Of A Down member, Shavo. Shot at Sasquatch Festival and also Portland Oregon by famed cinematographer Danny Hiele (U2, Green Day, Kanye West), the concept caputures and merges punk and reggae. Thus, the main punk video “Give Thanks And Praises” is seen merging into the dub reggae of “Jah Love.” It’s a concept Shavo felt did justice to the band as being innovators of punk rock:

“I really wanted to respect this band and bring out and capture what they are about, which is a certain intensity…yet, also bringing out all sides of the band. So, the brutal fury of the first video merges into this beautiful dub song. It is some of the most stunning cinematography from DP Danny Hiele I have ever seen. Glorious film style,” says Shavo.

“I’ve been a fan of the Brains ever since I can remember. They are iconic pioneers of punk, not just the music but the attitude. The energy that comes off their stage is like no other. It’s a big responsibility… I’m honored.” says Shavo.

A Bad Brains UK and European tour will commence in September, followed by more USA dates in October. Current Bad Brains dates:

The first proper Bad Brains studio album in over a decade, Build A Nation, was just released to critical acclaim, June 26, 2007 on Megaforce/Oscilloscope Records. The album features all the original members of the group: HR, Darryl Jenifer, Dr. Know and Earl Hudson.

Produced by long time fan, Adam Yauch of the Beastie Boys, Build A Nation is a return to form for the band that helped define American Punk and Hardcore music. It also represents the first studio album, outside Beastie Boys albums, to be recorded at the Beastie Boys’ Oscilloscope Laboratories and Studio compound in New York City.

“The Brains are one of most powerful and unique bands in the world,” stated Adam Yauch. “They have been a huge influence on me, and it was an honor to work with them on this record.”

Considered by many to be the “holy grail” of punk rock, the Bad Brains iconic legacy is best defined by their frenetic and legendary live shows. They are one of the definitive American punk groups who garner the same respect as the Sex Pistols, Black Flag, The Clash, and The Ramones. They brought a new dimension to music by melding punk and reggae into an innovative style that has yet-to-be copied. Build A Nation returns the band to their early roots with a raw, analog-driven chaotic album.

“The thing about a lot of punk is the feeling that bands have is of apathy and hopelessness. Whereas Bad Brains lyrical content had a lot of hope in it,” commented Billy Joe Armstrong of Green Day.
