(Newham Recorder) YOU may only just be putting your festival armoury away for another year, but others are already planning their Christmas festivities.

And for the fourth year running, it means the return of The Pogues to the live circuit.

As anyone who has seen a Pogues Christmas show will tell you, this is the perfect start (or end) to the festive season and is akin to having St Patrick’s Day in December – which can’t be a bad thing.

With artists such as Pete Doherty, Larrikin Love and Gogol Bordello name checking the songs of Shane and company, and introducing the band to a new generation, The Pogues remain a huge influence on music and one of the greatest live bands you are ever likely to see.

Although there’s no Cait O’Riordan, the band is based around the classic If I Should Fall From Grace With God line-up.

So, Shane MacGowan, Spider Stacy, Philip Chevron, Jem Finer, Darryl Hunt, Andrew Ranken, Terry Woods and James Fearnley will take to the stage throughout December, including two dates at Brixton Academy – December 17 and 18.

Tickets are 28.50 through http://www.gigsandtours.com; http://www.ticketmaster.co.uk or 0871 2200 260.
