John Brown’s Body On Tour Now and Playing Brooklyn Bowl on April 23rd
Music News | Apr 4th, 2016
John Brown’s Body are currently on their Spring tour and will be playing Brooklyn Bowl in Brooklyn on April 23rd. The reggae band will debut songs from their upcoming full length release Fireflies, which will be released on Easy Star Records and be released in the Fall. You can get tickets here.
Celebrating 20 years as a band, JBB is in its strongest incarnation yet, performing its legendary Future Roots sound that has helped to define the entire American reggae scene. The band was one of the first U.S. reggae bands to tour nationally, helping to convert the U.S. scene from regional to country-wide. Several notable bands in the current U.S. reggae community, from Rebelution to Passafire, SOJA to The Movement, have pointed to JBB as a key spur in their own development. Through conscious lyrics backed by strong drum and bass and reinforced by triumphant 3 part horns, John Brown’s Body is on tour this spring doing what they do best – spreading its positive future roots reggae to the masses.
JBB will be supported by many talented acts such as People’s Champs; Former JBB alum Alex Asher; Asheville-based steel drum phenom Jonathan Scales Fourchestra; and 10-piece afro-beat funksters Big Mean Sound Machine.
JBB’s current lineup consists of founding members Elliot Martin (lead vocals) & Tommy Benedetti (drums) alongside Jay Spaker (guitar), Jon Petronzio (keys), Dan Africano (bass), Sam Dechenne (trumpet), TJ Shaper (trombone) & Mike Vitale (saxophone).
Fireflies, due early this fall on Easy Star Records, features a sound heavily influenced by pioneering early dancehall bands such as the Roots Radics. It includes a number of songs the band has been performing live, such as “Pure Fire” and “Badman,” and features plenty of songwriting collaboration between Martin and Spaker.
