For a band that’s fiercely independent and stunningly visceral in both their recorded material and their live shows, NYC’s indie punk/metal/electronic rock band Mindless Self Indulgence (MSI) knows how to make a big commotion. What better place to see their unrelenting assault but on this summer’s Projekt Revolution Tour, also featuring Linkin Park, My Chemical Romance, Placebo, Madina Lake, and others, where they will be headlining the second stage. Chester Bennington of Linkin Park has been a fan of Mindless Self Indulgence for years. Both Chester and MSI are happy to have the opportunity to finally play together.
Soon after the Projekt Revolution Tour commences in September, MSI will release the first ever live DVD titled Our Pain, Your Gain on September 11, 2007 on UCR/Metropolis Records. The performances were filmed over three nights at NYC’s Webster Hall just weeks after guitarist Steve, Righ? was hospitalized for partial hip replacement. What makes this significant is that he brings more danger and reckless abandon to the stage than most healthy teenagers in bands today. There are over twenty songs plus videos and behind-the-scenes footage that fans don’t usually get to see. The DVD was directed by Doug Spangenberg, most notable for his Lamb Of God DVD Killadephia that was certified Gold.
Formed in 1997, MSI has been storming the electronic and punk scenes, sweeping up many hardcore fans in its wake. With seminal albums as Frankenstein Girls Will Seem Strangely Sexy and last year’s You’ll Rebel to Anything, the band has been building organically and completely independently (a pointless major label stint with Elektra proved even more telling that they should keep things in their own control). And earlier this year, their fierce determination paid off. Occupying two slots in Billboard’s respected “Hot Dance Single Sales Chart” with their single “Shut Me Up” snagging the #1 spot and “Straight to Video” at #5 during the same second week of January 2007, MSI laid waste over Beyonce, Justin Timberlake, and even Madonna.
Now as they ready their fans on another incendiary tour – this time on the Projekt Revolution Tour that will undoubtedly expose them to even more people, Mindless Self Indulgence are ready to blow the the rusty hinges off of the industry doors. And what will MSI’s biggest contribution to the tour be? Vocalist Jimmy Urine replies, “The meat.”
