Plan 9 are a Misfits tribute band and the singer sounds like Danzig a lot! The whole band sounds pretty good too, and here’s their music video for ‘Undead’.

And here’s a press release for their latest CD which came out July 8th:

Nickel and Dime Records is pleased to announce the release of Plan 9 Manmade Monster for worldwide distribution. The group s sophomore release includes 13 original songs that capture the raw energy and spirit of the Glenn Danzig-era Misfits, but with a fresh songwriting perspective and ass-kicking high identity.

Plan 9 originally formed in San Francisco circa 1997 as a one shot, one time Misfits tribute band. The show sold out in under an hour and was attended by none other than Kirk Hammett, James Hetfield, and Jim Martin of Faith No More. The crowd was mystified by the extreme likeness that Plan 9 bore to the actual Misfits, both musically and visually. Led by Scary Only of the infamous psychobilly band, the Hellbillys, Plan 9 began to carve out a vast following with their aggressive, powerful and theatrical live shows.

Years later, Plan 9 became one of California’s most popular bands playing for the likes of Glenn Danzig and Jerry Only (Jerry appears on their debut release as well). They have mutated from a “tribute band” to a legitimate death-rock band, writing and producing their own material.

Their debut release, 8 Hits From Hell (2004), led critics and fans alike to hail Plan 9 as the only true successors of the original Misfits sound.

The originals seem to approach the classic-middle, Walk Among Us-era Misfits as almost a genre. They have the same well-played, catchy, up-tempo melodic punk with sung vocals and shouted chorus and ’50s B-movie horror and sci-fi themes. Like other bands who have picked up this sound and run with it, it’s often more enjoyable of a listen than the slowed metallic route the actual former Misfits members since have taken. – MAXIMUM ROCK N ROLL
