(NYACK NY, AUG 11th) – Southern California s most talked about Alternative Rock Radio Station, 98.7 FM, announced today that L.A. s most talked about homegrown band, Ozomatli, will crack open the mic every weekday to host mornings at the station.

The Ozomatli Morning Show debuts on 98.7FM , August 20th at 6AM.

Authenticity resonates with today s consumer, says Greg Ashlock, Market President, Clear Channel Los Angeles. With Ozo, what you see is what you get. There are no pretenses, just genuine, raw opinions based on their experiences as Los Angeles natives and successful recording artists. Their music appeal is undisputed (they ve won 3 Grammys), their social conscience is widely acknowledged (they were recently named United States Cultural Ambassadors), and they are not new to this side of the radio biz (they have hosted a weekly local music program on Saturday nights on 98.7fm called Ozo-Local since January of this year).

It just made complete sense. Based on the sound, flow and compelling local content of the Saturday night show, and the spirit Ozomatli has as a group, we knew we had something special there. They are not trying to be disc-jockeys. They are and relate to the 98.7 audience. Given their lifestyle, and perspective on community, music, pop-culture and politics, 98.7 listeners are in for one heck of a morning show.

Ozomatli is a group of six principle members, who were born and raised in Los Angeles and who have been playing, writing and performing together for over 12 years.

Their personal and collaborative struggles have kept them close as a group and drive their creativity. Among other things, the band is known for pioneering Spanish-English mash-ups of hip hop, salsa, cumbia, dub and Middle Eastern funk.

In 2007 the band released their fourth full length studio album, Don t Mess With The Dragon, which received a Grammy nomination, and is described as the group s most cohesive, polished and joyous record to date.

Uli, Ozomatli s sax, clarinet, piano and requinto player, says, When we were first offered the ‘Ozolocal’ show we didn t expect to have as much fun as we did bugging out on the mic and giving people a glimpse into Ozo’s world first hand.
