Kaiser Chiefs frontman Ricky Wilson broke his rib while opening for Green Day at Madison Square Garden. Kaiser Chiefs have been opening for Green Day (unbeknownst to Green Day fans) and will continue to play for them until August 9th. August 9th, Kaiser Chiefs will be playing Lollapalooza in Chicago.
I saw the concert Monday night at MSG and was really disappointed that the fans weren’t more into their set. But what do you expect from Green Day fans? Most of them acted like it was their first concert (and probably was). Ricky and the rest of the band tried their hardest to get the crowd into their set but they just stood there. Maybe if MSG made the band sound just as loud as Green Day, maybe the audience would have appreciated them more? At one point, Ricky was jumping all over the barrier and even went into the crowd to SIT down. I believe he broke his rib on Tuesday night concert, but Monday he looked like he got banged up too. Who knows.
A statement from the band explained that “Kaiser Chiefs’ Ricky Wilson fell jumping between the barrier and the stage, breaking a rib in the process whilst the band had been playing”.
However despite Wilson’s injury, the band will not need to cancel any dates.
The statement added: “The rest of the shows will still go ahead as they criss-cross America – Ricky’s had treatment and decided the tour goes on. Kaiser Chiefs end this run of dates with a Main Stage slot at Lollapalooza on August 9.
