Scottish folk singer Alistair Hulett of Roaring Jack has passed away due to complications of liver failure. I didn’t know he suffered liver failure until seeing on Shite N Onions that he was really ill. This is really sad news because Alistair Hullet was an excellent singer and songwriter who fronted the folk punk band Roaring Jack in Australia. After that band, he did mainly acoustic folk music and was just as successful. His talent will be missed! Time to go blare some Roaring Jack!! More after the jump:
Alistair’s website posted news of the liver failure:
You may not have heard the news, so I’d like to share with you that Alistair has been critically ill in hospital here in Glasgow for the last three weeks. He’s suffering from liver failure and is in urgent need of an organ transplant.
Until now he hasn’t wanted people to know but as the news has started to spread, already the messages of hope and encouragement are pouring in from friends and fans alike. This is proving to be really beneficial for Alistair’s spirits and we know that if he is to beat this dreadful illness he needs to be in as positive a frame of mind as possible.
The official website Roaring Jack posted this message:
It is with great sadness that I must convey the news of Alistair Hulett’s passing.
Alistair Hulett died at the Southern General Hospital in Glasgow on Thursday evening, 28 January 2010 (or approximately 5:30am on Friday morning, 29 January 2010 Sydney time).
Alistair’s partner Fatima thanks all those who wrote in with messages of support in the past week since news of Alistair’s illness became public. The response was overwhelming, and shows just how many people cared about Alistair and his music.
Alistair, a truly great singer, songwriter, activist and socialist, will be greatly missed by us all.
