Alesana sound like a progressive metalcore band fronted by Alanis Morrisette.

I kind of like the upbeat vibe, sonic off-da-hookness, and high-pitched 80s metal guitars, but the double-pronged assault of alterna-chick emo vocals and phlegmy swamp monster gargling catapult it to crapland. Worse, the chick vocals are actually from a guy, but in his defense, he IS wearing a lot of eyeliner.

The songs are well written and creative, but the eunuch-like singing and overall sparkly polish takes away most of their bite. I can hear the appeal, but they just don’t rock. And if you don’t rock, you shouldn’t exist. So I sayeth, so it shall be. Begone!

Bottom Line: A shitty Coheed and Cambria.
