There’s usually two types of roles for Anthony Hopkins. Scary villainous killers, or old Shakespearean roles. I haven’t seen the Rite but I’m guessing he falls into the scary villainous role with The Rite? The thriller movie is based on Matt Baglio’s The Rite: The Making of a Modern Exorcist. The movie was directed by Mikael Håfström and written by Matt Baglio and Michael Petroni. I guess this is about Anthony Hopkins character being possessed by a demon (or something)?

The score was composed by Alex Heffes, who I’m not entirely familiar with. He composed the scores for The Last King of Scotland, The Bridge documentary and few other things. For the most part, the score has it’s moments of dramatic cues (“God’s Fingernail,” “Angeline’s Story”), but also has a fair share of frightening tracks like “Rosaria Coughs Up The Nails,” and “The Terror is Real.” Since this movie takes place in Rome, at times there is cool Choir singing in the tracks. It’s not really noticeable but done in a nice subtle way. I’m sure the score works well in the movie but on CD, the score could have been a little bit more exciting I guess? Something is missing and I’m not sure what it is. I would preview the tracks online first before purchasing, unless you saw The Rite and liked what you heard in the film.

Bottom Line: Not bad but not great either
Notable Tracks: Going To Rome, The Terror is Real
